THE BEVARD STUDIO
This is one of the most common questions I get asked in my Farmingdale studio — and honestly, it’s a great question. The two terms get used interchangeably all the time, but glamour and boudoir photography are actually two different experiences, built around two different feelings.
If you’ve been considering a session for yourself but aren’t sure which one is “you,” this should help. There’s no wrong answer here — only the one that feels most like the version of yourself you’re hoping to see.
What Is Glamour Photography?
Glamour photography is bold. It’s polished, editorial, and a little larger than life — the kind of imagery you’d expect to see in a magazine spread. Think dramatic lighting, couture gowns, statement looks, and full hair and makeup that makes you feel like you stepped onto a red carpet.
Glamour sessions are about presence. They’re about walking into a room and commanding it — not because you’re trying to be someone else, but because for one afternoon, you get to be the most elevated version of yourself. Many of my glamour clients describe the experience as “feeling like a celebrity for a day.”
What Is Boudoir Photography?
Boudoir photography is intimate. It’s softer, quieter, and deeply personal — built around elegant lighting, gentle posing, and imagery that feels private and sensual rather than performative. Where glamour says “look at me,” boudoir says “this is for me.”
Boudoir sessions are often booked as a gift to oneself — for a birthday, after a major life change, after weight loss, after a divorce, or simply because someone decided it was finally their turn. The resulting images are usually kept private, treasured personally, and rarely shared beyond the person who booked the session (and sometimes a partner).
“I was terrified walking in. By the end I felt like a completely different woman — and I mean that in the best possible way.”

So Which One Is Right for You?
Here’s the part that surprises people: you don’t have to choose based on your body, your age, or how “ready” you feel. Both sessions are built for women who arrive nervous — that’s actually the norm, not the exception.
Instead, ask yourself how you want to feel when you see the images. If the answer is powerful, radiant, larger than life — glamour is probably calling to you. If the answer is soft, intimate, something just for you — boudoir is likely the one.
And if you’re still not sure? That’s okay too. Many women come in for a consultation undecided, and we figure it out together based on what’s actually going on in their life right now.

A Note on Being Nervous
Almost every single person who walks through my door — whether for glamour or boudoir — says some version of the same thing: “I’m not sure I can do this.” And almost every single time, by the end of the session, that nervousness has turned into something else entirely.
That shift is the whole point. You don’t need to feel ready. You don’t need to have it figured out. You just need to be curious enough to find out what’s on the other side of that nervousness — and I promise, it’s worth it.
